“Big” Dave Keisler and Karen Reid Fitzhugh were married in the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens on June 29.

Dunsmuir City Councilor “Big” Dave Keisler and Karen Reid Fitzhugh tied the knot last Saturday, June 29 in the Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens.

The wedding was attended by numerous Dunsmuir residents and city and county officials, including the current mayor, numerous former Dunsmuir mayors, Dunsmuir City Council members, Siskiyou County Supervisor Ed Valenzuela, Sheriff Jon Lopey, members of the Dunsmuir Rotary Club, Siskiyou Media Council, Regional Director for South Siskiyou County Steven Bryan, local business owners including Mark and Mary Lilly from Railroad Park Resort, pastor Dan Reagan from Cascade Community Church, and relatives of the bride and groom, most of whom had traveled from out of town to attend the wedding.

Everyone present was someone who has made a difference in Dave and Karen’s lives.

The ceremony, which was officiated by Chris Rainey, concluded with a recessional to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams, followed by a reception at the Dunsmuir Community Center.

Heartfelt speeches were given at the reception, most notably by Dunsmuir Councilor Bruce Deutsch. Both Rainey and Deutsch spoke of how Dave and Karen met after they’d both lost their spouses. Deutsch shared reflections on how Dave and Karen ended up moving to Dunsmuir about 10 years ago, and the positive impact Keisler has had on the community ever since.

As a final remark, Dunsmuir mayor, Juliana Lucchesi, made a proclamation, declaring that henceforth, Dunsmuir would recognize June 29 as “Big Dave Day.” A motion was then made to amend that to “Big Dave and Karen Day.”
