Undersheriff Karl Houtman said the investigation is still in its early stages and the victim has not been identified. He declined to release any other information about the case.

"We are not certain how many suspects there are and they remain unidentified," Houtman said. "We can't speak about the victim currently but I'll be updating the press release before too long once the investigation goes further."

Houtman stated the victim was found in a parceled housing structure near A-12.

According to the sheriff's office, the Weed Police Department received the 911 call about a possible shooting in the early hours on the north side of Highway A-12 in the subdivision off Perla Drive.

Arriving sheriff's deputies and detectives discovered the male victim's body in a structure.

Witnesses on scene said the unidentified suspect or suspects left the area, Houtman said in the statement released Thursday morning.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call dispatch at 530-841-2900.
