Empty lumber cars derail near Cantara Loop

Their wheels strewn along the track, two cars lie on their sides after a derailment just north of the Cantara Loop Bridge Thursday evening, June 13. A total of seven cars on a northbound train left the tracks, tipped and landed on solid ground. None of the cars were loaded. This shot is looking toward the bridge, which is obscured by cars.

Union Pacific says the cause of a train derailment Thursday evening at about 7 p.m. just north of the Cantara Loop Bridge is under investigation.

A northbound train with 80 cars was moving through the area when seven empty lumber flatbed cars derailed upright, according to Aaron Hunt of Union Pacific.

He said, "There were no injuries and the river was not impacted."
