A Dunsmuir man died in an accident on Interstate 5 near Gilman Road Sunday morning, June 22.

Anthony Skalko, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release from the Redding Area California Highway Patrol.

Skalko was driving a 2003 Subaru south on I-5 at an undetermined speed at approximately 8:45 a.m., the CHP reported. For unknown reasons, he allowed the vehicle to leave the roadway. The Subaru struck a guard rail to west of the roadway, then spun out of control across all southbound lanes and struck the concrete median wall.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, which is still under investigation, according to the CHP.
