Beer of the Month: Ken Schmidt/Iron Fist/Stone Mint Chocolate Stout

The latest collaboration beer from the Stone Brewing Company (with Ken Schmidt and Iron Fist) is the Mint Chocolate Stout, and I enjoyed it a lot.

I didn’t think I would. Mint is a flavor for hard candies or breath mints, maybe toothpaste, but not to drink. I’ve had a couple of other mint beverages and they all tasted like Crest to me.

Not the Mint Chocolate Stout. The chocolate was the dominant flavor for me, which was key. With chocolate being dominant, it allowed the mint to play a supporting role when it came to taste, so it prevented the toothpaste-like flavor from developing.

It is a full-bodied beer, and very smooth and creamy. It does not taste like a 9.6 percent ABV beer. I’d definitely recommend this as an after dinner beer, or something to drink with dessert.

I want to buy a couple of these and save these for Christmas. A highly enjoyable beer that I think everyone should try.
