Beer Gadget Review: The Shakoolie

Norman Miller

Until the other night, I never had a beer in the shower.

From reading posts on Twitter, shower beers are sometimes described as the most relaxing beer in the world. Other times, it is described as an epic experience that you need to experience.

But, I just never had one. I shower in the morning, and usually I’m not in the mood for a beer at 7 a.m.

Luckily, two things combined the other day that allowed me to have my first shower beer. First, a co-worker sprayed me with a bottle of Zombie-scented cologne, so I needed to shower to get the stench of ground off me. And second, the fine people at Shakoolie sent me their specially designed shower beer product to test and review.

The Shakoolie is designed for the shower. It comes with a sticky pad that you stick to the shower wall. It has Velcro on the portion that is facing you. Then the coozie it comes with also has Velcro. Basically, you put the beer in the coozie, and you stick it to the wall. This keeps the beer high enough so it doesn’t get wet, while making it easy to grab when you can’t wait another second for a sip of ale or lager.

The toughest question for me was what kind of beer to drink? I don’t take long showers, so I didn’t want a high alcohol beer, such as an imperial stout or a double IPA. I would have to take a long shower to finish the beer. So I was thinking something a little lighter. I decided on the brand new Samuel Adams Blueberry Hill Lager, which is an easy drinking beer.

So, I got in the shower, turned on the hot water and drank my beer. Was it epic? No, not really. I have a lot of hair on my head and face, and it takes two hands to work the shampoo through my luscious locks. Having the beer in there was almost a distraction for me. I think I’ll skip shower beers in the future.

However, if you really want a shower beer, the Shakoolie does the trick. It held the full bottle of beer with no problem. It’s strong Velcro. And you can easily mount it anywhere.

So, if you’re a shower beer aficionado, the Shakoolie could be for you. It is available by clicking here, and a three pack will run you about $25.
