How much government snooping will we tolerate to guard against terrorism? A lot? A little? None?
I don’t have any easy answers to the questions in the headline above, and I’m guessing you don’t either.
But sooner or later, we’re going to have to have a national conversation on this matter. Whether that conversation will be sober, calm and mature remains to be seen.
September 11 still looms large in our national psyche, but so do constitutional guarantees against unreasonable snooping by our government. We want our government to guard against any recurrence of September 11th, but we also want the government to protect our privacy.
