Two teenagers from Ukiah died on Highway 89 near Ski  Park Highway Friday afternoon when the car they were driving in turned directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Erica Alyce Luke, 18, was driving a 1995 Toyota Tercel southbound and attempting to make a left turn onto Ski Park Highway around noon on April 6, 2012, according to a press release from the Mt. Shasta Area California Highway Patrol.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Tercel turned left across Highway 89 directly into the path of a northbound 2005 Ford F-350, driven by Ronald Leroy Peterson, 67, of Grants Pass, Ore, CHP said.

A 17 year old female sitting in the front seat sustained fatal injuries at the scene, and the rear seat passenger, a 19 year old male, succumbed to fatal injuries at Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta, according to the CHP.

Peterson and his passenger, Darlene Donahue, 67, of Grants Pass, were transported to?Mercy for treatment of minor injuries. Luke was also transported to Mercy with major injuries, the CHP said.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in the collision, said the CHP, and Highway 89 remained open during the on-scene investigation.

The names of the deceased are not being released until their families are notified, the CHP reported.
