Dead body found near turnout on Highway 97

The discovery of a dead body yesterday near a turnout on Highway 97 is being investigated as suspicious.

The body of a 42 year old white male was found about seven miles south of Macdoel at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, said Allison Giannini, spokesperson for the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department.

“An autopsy has been requested to determine the cause and manner of death,” said Giannini. “Due to the location that the body was found the Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the death as suspicious.”

The name of the deceased will not be released until the next of kin is notified, Giannini said.
