Mount Shasta woman arrested for attempted murder
A Mount Shasta woman suspected of holding a 70 year old at gunpoint and attempting to smother her with a pillow was arrested Thursday on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
The day before, on Aug. 14, Alyssa Ashlie, age 19 of Mount Shasta, was arrested for grand theft and booked into Siskiyou County Jail after Mount Shasta Police Department officers responded to a report of a possible kidnapping for ransom, according to Mount Shasta Police Department Chief Parish Cross.
After investigation, it was determined that no kidnapping had occurred, however, an “elaborate scheme” to steal $6,000 from the 70 year old woman had taken place, Cross said.
Ashlie was arrested for grand theft and is suspected of taking more than $7,000 from the victim, said Cross.
Ashlie’s bail was set at $25,000.
The following day, on Aug. 15, the victim called the MSPD to say Ashlie had entered her home in the night, held her at gunpoint and attempted to smother her with a pillow, Cross said.
Ashlie was located in Yreka and with the assistance of the Yreka Police Department, was taken into custody without incident, said Cross.
“After extensive interviews, Ashlie was arrested for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon,” Cross said. “She was booked into Siskiyou County Jail and is currently being held without bail.”
