A Mount Shasta man has been charged with attempted murder after a fight broke out in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 5, at Spirits Bar in Dunsmuir.

Daniel Moreno, 26, was booked in Siskiyou County Jail on charges of attempted murder and probation violation, said Allison Giannini, spokesperson for the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were dispatched to the fight, involving several participants in front of the bar, at about 12:45 a.m., Giannini said. When they arrived, the altercation had migrated to a nearby parking lot.

Deputies made contact with a male victim, who reported he had been stabbed several times in the back by one of the participants, Giannini said.

The vicitim told the deputies who his attacker was and later identified Moreno from a photograph, said Giannini.

Moreno was observed fleeing the crime scene and was pursued and apprehended.

After Moreno's arrest, 25 year old Dunsmuir resident Seth Moore was arrested for resisting, delaying and obstructing a police officer during the performance of his official duties, despite being warned not to interfere with the apprehension of Moreno, said Giannini. Moore also had two arrest warrants, she added.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta for treatment. Sheriff Jon Lopey said in a press release that he’s “doing well under the circumstances.”

“This was a dangerous situation for the citizens exposed to this confrontation and for all responding law enforcement personnel,” Lopey said. “The responding... sergeant and deputies were able to make a major arrest, were able to mitigate a significant disturbance and we are relieved that the prime suspect was identified and put behind bars until we can further investigate this incident.”

He asked anyone who may have witnessed the confrontation to call the Sheriff’s Department’s 24-hour dispatch center at (530) 842-2900.
