The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office reported that an unoccupied vehicle was struck by gunfire early Friday morning, Aug. 7, 2015 in Dunsmuir, but there were no known injuries resulting from the incident.

Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to several calls that reported “shots fired” at about 4 a.m. on the 5700 block of Shasta Avenue in Dunsmuir.

“Responding units discovered that an unoccupied vehicle was struck by gunfire and evidence indicated that a support post of a nearby home was also struck by an unknown caliber round,” according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Sheriff’s Office investigators and a forensic technician gathered evidence at the scene, according to the release.

“Any time a firearm is used in such a reckless and willful manner it is a concern to law enforcement authorities because of the potential for needless serious injury and death,” Sheriff Jon Lopey states in the release.

The Sheriff’s Office requests that anyone with information about the case contact the Sheriff’s Office 24-hour Dispatch Center at (530) 841-2900.
