Siskiyou County emergency responders are scheduled to participate in an Upper Sacramento River Hazardous Materials training drill June 18 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Representatives from federal, state, county and local government are working in coordination to hold the exercise, according to a news release from Andrea Capps, interpretive specialist for the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

Emergency services vehicles will pass through the Dunsmuir, according to the release. “Please do not report this activity unless you have an actual emergency,” the release states. “People are requested to keep away from the Cantara Loop area, as the location will be congested with emergency vehicles and personnel.”

The Code RED Program will be used to call area phone numbers and give a brief safety message. National Forest officials encourage everyone in Siskiyou County “to check out this emergency alert system.”
