MSHS principal won’t return this year

After a closed session following a special meeting of the Siskiyou Union High School District last week, it was reported by superintendent Mike Matheson that Mount Shasta High School principal Jami Whedbee is on personal leave.

“Mr. Whedbee and the board have mutually agreed on his personal leave for the remainder of the year... At this time, Barbara Porteous is the acting Teacher in Charge,” Matheson said in a follow-up interview. “We are working this week and next to make the final decision as how to cover administrative responsibilities for the rest of the school year.”

Other than that Matheson would only say that the District is in the midst of considering what type of search they will engage in for a new administrator for MSHS.

Whedbee’s current contract with SUHSD will come to an end on June 30, 2009.

He has been absent from the MSHS campus since Monday, Feb. 6, without any formal announcement or explanation.

When asked about the principal’s status on Feb. 27, Matheson would only say that Whedbee was “out of the office.”
