With the intention of spreading holiday cheer, Jeralee Hanson’s fifth and sixth grade class delivered baked goods and sang Christmas carols to the senior citizens of McCloud on Dec. 20 and 21.

Norman May, the chef at McCloud Elementary, helped Mrs. Hanson’s students bake pumpkin bread, Chex mix and a variety of cookies. The students learned how to use recipes and measure ingredients as part of their Science Technology Engineering and Math curriculum.

Representatives from each church in McCloud, prepared a list of names and addresses for the students’ tour of senior homes. Upon arriving at the homes, Mrs. Hanson invited the residents to step outside to hear the carols and receive gifts from the students.

Smiles of joy were apparent on the faces of the recipients and the faces of the children. This community service project was a gift for both the senior citizens and the students.
