VFW Post 622 banquet

PETERSBURG — McNair Trueheart VFW Post 622 will hold its 95th anniversary banquet on Friday, 7 p.m., at the VFW Post 622, 1925 Johnson Road, Petersburg.

Guest speaker will be the Honorable Brenda Pelham, mayor of the City of Hopewell.

Public servants from local law enforcement, fire department, emergency medical team, school system, and participants in the Voice of Democracy and Patriot?s Pen Essay contest will be recognized for their achievements and public service.

Current ticket holders, please note that the venue has been changed from the American Legion Post 2 to the VFW Post 622.

Chesterfield Council on Aging

CHESTERFIELD — The Chesterfield Council on Aging will meet from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Lucy Corr Village, Mast Auditorium, 6800 Lucy Corr Drive.

The Chesterfield County Police Department will offer a presentation on the topic of active shooters. The video “Run, Hide, Fight” will be shown and an officer will show basic techniques of what to do and how to react in this situation. The program will be presented by Career Officer Craig Eckrich with the Community Services Division.

Historic trees of Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD — The community is invited to learn about the historic trees in Chesterfield Country from Pat Roble from the Chesterfield County History Museum. Register one week in advance.

The presentation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at Chesterfield Senior Center, 4000 Stigall Drive.

Spring Break at the library

PETERSBURG — The Petersburg Public Library, 201 W. Washington St.,  is excited to offer various programs during Spring Break Week March 28–April 1.

Kicking off the week will be "Hip Hop Dance and Movement" with Kourtney Bell at 3 p.m. March 28, for ages 4-6.

On March 29, Van Gogh’s birthday celebration will begin at 3 p.m. for ages 4-6 and Colors of the Season painting with Narda Shojaei begins at 5 p.m. for ages 6 and older.

On March 30 at noon, a Young Authors Writing and Illustration workshop will be held for ages 6 and older, followed at 2 p.m. with STEM fun and games for families and small groups.

On March 31, from 2-5, there will be an Open Lego Build for ages 6 and older and from 6-8, for teens, only, is Teen 2K Competition Night.

All programs are free and open to the public. Registration is required for all events except Open Lego Build.  Adult supervision required.
