Franklin Elementary School fourth grade music students, as well as some Boone High School students, were treated to a performance by a young Korean pianist Wednesday morning at the high school.

Classical pianist Ji, the winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, is known for his starring role in a national Android commercial, in which he plays Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata on two pianos. Hailing from a musically inclined family, he began playing the piano when he was 5 years old.

The students had the opportunity to not only listen to Ji play a few songs, but also to ask him questions about his piano playing experience.

One of the things Ji told the students was that it is important to be excited and passionate about the things they do, such as playing sports, climbing trees or playing the piano.

“This opportunity was made possible, in part, to the connection and relationship we have had with the Iowa State Center and Sara Compton, their outreach coordinator," Franklin Elementary School music teacher Lois Downs said of Ji's visit to the high school. "We are so very fortunate to be able to bring these kinds of live performances to our students here at Boone. This has been an ongoing project for over 15 years.”

Ji is in the area for a performance he is giving this evening, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Martha Ellen Tye recital hall on the Iowa State University campus.
