The Mt. Shasta Fire Department in conjunction with several other South County Fire Departments will be conducting a live fire structure burn on Saturday, April 15, beginning at 7 a.m.

The property owner has donated the house at 801 Pine Street that was planned for destruction to the Mt. Shasta Fire Department to use for live fire training.

“Many hours are needed in fire suppression training to keep firefighters proficient in suppression techniques, reading different stages of a fire, incident command skills, communications, pumping, and ventilation training,” according to a release from the City of Mt. Shasta.

There will be smoke in the area on the date of the training burn, and it is advised that persons with respiratory problems not be present or in close proximity to this exercise. Spectators will be required to, and are requested to keep their distance due to the dangerous conditions involved in any live fire situation.
