Deadline approaching for Quilt Guild scholarship

The application deadline is fast approaching for the $1,000 scholarship being offered by the Shasta Lily Quilt Guild. The scholarship is available to any graduating senior from any Siskiyou County high school who is pursuing a career in the following artistic fields: quilting, fabric design, fabric or fiber arts, graphic design, fine arts or applied arts. Applications from COS students transferring to other schools will also be accepted. To be considered, the application must be postmarked by March 31.

Applicants must have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0. Two letters of reference, an official transcript, a personal essay and a portfolio showcasing examples of the applicant’s artistic expression are required. This year, the scholarship review committee will be particularly focusing on the quality of the applicant’s portfolio.

The Shasta Lily Quilt Guild is a group of South Siskiyou County quilters with diverse interests and backgrounds. In addition to monthly sewing circle meetings, programs of interest to members, educational activities and workshops, the group sponsors the Quilting Around the Mountain Quilt Show. The Guild also participates in Project Linus and Quilts of Valor and actively donates quilts to local organizations and charities. In the past, quilts have gone to CASA, the Carr and Camp Fire disasters, SCDV&C, and For the Children, as well as to numerous individuals.

The 2018 scholarship winner was Anya Ireson-Janke of Yreka High School. She is attending the University of California, Los Angeles majoring in interior design.
