The Friends of the Siskiyou County Museum recently published the Heritage Cookbook – a compilation of recipes, photos, and cures passed down from families throughout the county. The FSCM noted that the cookbook is perfect for a Mother’s Day gift.

“Available at the Museum Store in Yreka, the 138 page book is much more than just a collection of recipes contributed by Siskiyou County residents. In it you will also find recipes and household hints gleaned from very old cookbooks found in the Museum collection. And if cooking is not your thing, there are than 30 historic photos related to food, restaurants and cooking spread throughout the book to spark your interest,” the FSCM said.

The cookbook also contains names of local cooks who have since passed on, including Rosie Finato, Blanche Doggett Heflin, Mary Shaw, Effie Butler, Charlotte Davis, Lennie Crawford, Jean Sheppard.

The Heritage Cookbook sells for $15. Proceeds from the book’s sales will go toward the Friends of the Siskiyou County Museum, which supports the museum’s programs, events and fundraising. The Museum Store is open the same hours as the Siskiyou County Museum: Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum is located at 910 S. Main Street in Yreka and can be reached by phone at (530) 842-3836.
