Deborra Brannon

Candidate Kathy Morter came out on top yesterday in Mount Shasta’s special election to fill the city council seat left vacant when councilor Tom Moore passed away late last December.
Morter received 325 votes out of 617 total votes cast, according to the vote tally on the Siskiyiou County Clerk’s website.
Roslyn McCoy received 180 votes and Ross Abbasi received 105 votes
The 617 votes recorded in yesterday’s election represent only about 32 percent of the 1,924 registered voters in Mount Shasta City.
Morter received close to 53 percent of votes cast by voters who voted, McCoy about 29 percent, and Abassi about 17 percent.
Write in votes accounted for about one percent of the total.
