Wants Herger out

Staff Writer
Mount Shasta Herald

Dear Editor,

I nearly choked on my breakfast this morning when I read Rep. Wally Herger’s quote regarding the Secure Rural Schools and Communities Self-Determination Act, or SRSCA.

Herger claims that reauthorization of this bill has been one of his “top priorities” in Congress, yet we know that Wally voted against the bill on at least four occasions.

Our county supervisors have been so frustrated with his lack of action that they addressed a letter to him in July with their concerns.

Supervisor Bill Overman said at the time that county citizens were “concerned and angry about nothing coming out of Washington” adding, “I feel like we’ve been abandoned by the federal government.”

Siskiyou County Superintendent of Schools Kermith Walters has made numerous trips back to Washington lobbying for passage of this bill, as well as spending countless hours phoning and e-mailing representatives.

For Herger to now take credit for passage of this critical funding measure is the worst form of political posturing I have ever seen.

It is obvious that Herger no longer understands the needs of the schools, the students, or the parents here in the 2nd District. He has lost touch with the real people who elected him to Congress.

Seems like the only time we ever see him up here is when he shows up for a photo-op.

The time has come to throw Herger out and elect a true leader to take his place. Join me in voting for Jeff Morris who will work to represent the people of the 2nd District.

Very truly yours,

Scott Hinchcliff
