Dear Editor,

Meals on Wheels has asked Dunsmuir City Council to help its efforts by lending our support and bringing public awareness to their organization. The south county chapter serves Dunsmuir, Mount Shasta, Weed, McCloud and outlying areas.

On March 19 Meals on Wheels organizers will be in town to collect donations and to thank Dunsmuir for our support. We would like to ask business owners to display the Meals on Wheels donation jars in their businesses and ask citizens to donate any amount they can.

As stated on their website, “The Shasta Area Wheels program promotes health and supports the choice of independence by preparing and delivering nutritious, affordable meals to people in need of our service.

“We serve approximately 60 homebound lunches a day, Monday through Friday. Meals are delivered between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The meals we deliver are oftentimes the only hot meal of the day for each client. The suggested contribution for a homebound meal is $3.50.”

On behalf of the council, I am happy to recognize a group which does so much to assist our area’s senior citizens. This is a great opportunity to help those in need right here in our own community. Please help however you can.
