Letter to the Editor: Yes on Prop. 37

Dear Editor,

I have been an advocate for the labeling of genetically engineered foods in California ever since the signature gathering phase of the campaign to get Proposition 37 on the November ballot.

A new study has just been released researching the health risks of genetically engineered foods and the results are a wake up call for all concerned humans who eat – and that would be all of us!

The study was published in the peer-reviewed journal Food and Chemical Toxicology. For two years, the researchers fed rats a strain of Roundup Ready corn that is very prevalent in the US food supply. They reported finding massive mammary tumors, kidney and liver damage, and other serious problems.

The bottom line is we as citizens have the right to know what is in our foods. If you desire a genetically engineered product – you can pick it. If you choose non genetically engineered, the label will help in your decision process.

I for one want and demand to know what is actually in my food. This is so important for our children, our elders and ourselves.

California is the 8th largest economy in the world, so passing the genetically engineered labeling is critical for the future of food here and globally.

Let your voice be heard and vote Yes on Proposition 37. Humanity will thank you.
