Increased styling and interactive content
Websites continue to put more emphasis on the presentation of products, but not with increased text. Instead, consumers access product information through new styling features such as text appearing when hovering over a picture, sliding boxes upon a scroll, or a thumbnail expanding into boxes with more product and pricing descriptions. Video is also creating a new medium for advertisers to expand on their products while utilizing space wisely. These styling and interactive features are raising the e-commerce store’s reputation as modern and keeping users engaged.
Faster load times
With more users making purchases on-the-go with their mobile devices, it’s becoming more important to make sure your website loads quickly. Whether you’re having a company build your e-commerce site or are building it in-house, do the research on the factors that go into page load speed — 75 percent of Internet users agree that they would not return to a website if it did not load within four seconds! So make sure your e-commerce site loads quickly on-the-go to keep your customers coming back.
In the coming years, we will likely see layout customization on many e-commerce sites. Similar to how My Yahoo allows you to rearrange different gadgets like news, weather, and social media on your personal dashboard, soon e-commerce sites will allow users to reorganize their sites. Users will customize their e-commerce experience, rearranging items like product recommendations, navigations and sidebars anywhere on the site. Changes in personalized customization will account for much more loyalty among customers, as the website will be tailored to the specific needs of the user.
