MSHS girls dominate league tennis tournament

Miranda Duggan was a double winner in the league tennis tournament.

Every member of the Mount Shasta High School girls tennis team brought hardware home from the Shasta Evergreen League tennis tournament this past Friday and Saturday in Etna.

Senior Miranda Duggan won the girls singles championship for the fourth year in a row, defeating Bree Ward of U-Prep, 6-3, 6-3, in the finals, after she faced freshman teammate Jeanette Ricci in the semifinals.

Duggan also teamed with Dayna Vogt to win the girls singles title.

Mount Shasta’s boys all won first round matches in singles, and John Holst, Forrest Duggan, Daniel Ostrowski and Jarod Salinas Dick all won twice.

Ostrowski then defeated Duggan and went on to play for third place, losing to Brahms of U-Prep.

Johnny Ojeda of Etna won the boys singles title.

Salinas-Dick and Ostrowski teamed to win the boys doubles title for Mount Shasta with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Ojeda and Webster of Etna.

Ricci placed third in girls singles and third in doubles with Sydney Miller.

Tenaya Miller and Ari Kosel of Mount Shasta placed second in girls doubles, giving the Bears a 1-2-3 sweep and six trophies.

The Bears now move on to the Northern Section CIF Small Schools meet this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Shasta College in Redding.
