Mount Shasta Boosters Holiday Tournament starts Thursday
The schedule is set and the hoops action will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, as Mount Shasta High School’s Boosters put on their annual Holiday Tournament in Robert E. Novo Gymnasium.
Ten boys and girls varsity teams will compete, including the host Bears, Weed Cougars and Yreka Miners.
Mount Shasta’s boys team is scheduled to play two games on Thursday, against Lassen at 2 p.m. and against Yreka at 8 p.m.
Mount Shasta and Yreka went to overtime when they faced each other in the Miners’ Invitational last week, and the Bears pulled out the victory on a shot at the buzzer by returning Shasta Cascade League MVP?Erik Thelander.
Games will begin on Thursday at 11 a.m. Friday’s action will start with 3-point and Slam Dunk contests at noon. Friday’s games begin at 1 p.m. and conclude with Weed against Lassen at 8:30 p.m.
After the first two days, teams will be seeded for Saturday’s finales.
The boys championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday and will be preceded at noon by a qualifier between the 2nd and 3rd seeds.
The girls championship game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
“We want to encourage everyone to come out and support local athletics,” said Annarae Baldi, who is part of the Boosters.
Later that evening the Boosters will host a dance in the multi-purpose room at Mount Shasta Elementary School from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Good food, good competition and a festive atmosphere await all who attend the tourney, Baldi said.
