COS women take 6-3 mark to Monterey
College of the Siskiyous evened its record for the season against Chabot of Hayward with a 65-58 women’s basketball victory this past weekend 1at the Solano Showdown.
Alanna Stevens scored 17 points and grabbed 9 rebounds and Michelle Hoehn scored 16 points with 10 rebounds for the Eagles, who improved to 6-3 for the season.
Amber Franko added 15 points with 5 assists, Natalie Smith scored 9 and Dominique Quitoriano had 8 rebounds.
The Eagles previously lost to Chabot by two points, 67-65.
This time Siskiyous held a 32-24 lead at the half, got up by 15 points in the second half, saw their lead dwindle to 4 with 5 minutes to play, then stretched it out.
The night before, Siskiyous lost to Solano, 78-63, despite a 21 points effort by Dijana Topalovic, a sophomore guard from Vancouver, Wash., who made the all-tourney team.
Coach Tom Powers said Franko and Stevens were both a bit under the weather against Solano, but they came back strong the next night.
Hoehn scored 13 against Solano, Smith 10 and Stevens 6. Franko added 8 assists and Quitoriano had 7 rebounds.
Topalovic saw limited playing time a year ago, but put in a lot of time since then working on her shooting, Powers said. “She’s come a long way in a year,”?he said. “She’s one of our outside weapons.”
The Eagles are scheduled to play in a three-day tournament in Monterey this Thursday, Friday and Saturday before the holiday break.
