Back-to-back home runs help Siskiyous sweep Shasta

Back-to-back fourth inning home runs to straightaway centerfield launched College of the Siskiyous toward a 5-1 victory over Redwoods in the second game of a softball doubleheader Friday, April 16, 2010 in Weed.
The Eagles won the opener over Redwoods 10-0, but game two was scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth.
Siskiyous needed both wins to put itself in position to win a fourth straight Golden Valley Conference championship. The Eagles were tied for first place with Feather River going into their GVC-ending twinbill April 17 at Feather River.
They broke Friday’s scoreless tie in the nightcap when Meredith Barnes got hit by a pitch, then Dacia Hale and Janelle Cromie both smashed home runs.
Catcher Kylie Cantrell added an inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning. Her line drive down the right field line got by the right fielder and Cantrell made it all the way around to cross home plate standing up.
Winning pitcher Hannah Cooke went 4 2/3 innings, then Vanessa Bodily retired seven batters in a row for the save.
