Sports update: Tigers win home finale, will face Bulldogs for second place

Senior Colton Sordahl averaged nearly 14.5 yards per carry and totaled 359 yards rushing in the Dunsmuir Tigers’ 64-42 victory over Big Valley Friday night in Dunsmuir.

Sordahl scored 5 of his 6 touchdowns on the ground and caught a 14 yard touchdown pass from Jake Mekeel on Dunsmuir’s only pass completion of the game.

The Tigers scored 36 points in the second quarter and held a 50-20 half time lead.

Dunsmuir finished the game with a whopping 597 yards of offense. Mekeel was their second leading ground gainer with 14 carries for 77 yards, 1 touchdown and 4 conversions.

Sordahl, who added 4 kickoff returns for 117 yards and 2 punt returns for 45 yards, wasn’t even the game’s leading ground gainer from scrimmage. Big Valley senior

Tyrel Martin rushed for 382 yards on 33 carries and scored 5 touchdowns, including one on a 99 yard run.

James Adams and Daniel Ballard also scored touchdowns for the Tigers, who improved to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the California - North 8 Man League.

Big Valley, which fell to 1-4 in league and 4-5 overall, finished with 466 yards rushing and 10 yards passing.

Dunsmuir is scheduled to finish the regular season with a league game at Butte Valley (4-1, 7-1) in Dorris Nov. 5. The winner will claim a second place finish behind Hayfork (6-0, 8-0).

Sordahl leads the league with 1919 rushing yards and 278 points. He’s also second in receiving yards with 266.

Big Valley’s Martin is third in the league in rushing with 1589 yards and third in scoring with 142 points.
