Siskiyous is No. 1 seed in softball playoffs

College of the Siskiyous earned the No. 1 seed and will host No. 16 Yuba in the first round of the 2012 California Community College Softball Northern Regional next Saturday, May 5, in Weed.

The best of three series between Golden Valley Conference champion Siskiyous (35-2 overall) and Yuba (24-13, second place in the Bay Valley Conference) is scheduled to begin Saturday at 2 p.m. It will continue Sunday at noon and, if needed, 2 p.m.

Siskiyous was a perfect 20-0 in conference this season and was ranked No. 1 in the state for the week beginning April 22.

College of the Canyons (37-2-1) is the No. 1 seeded team in Southern California, and defending state champion Cypress College (36-4) is No. 2 in the south.

College of San Mateo (36-4) is No. 2 in the North, followed by Sierra College (35-5) and San Joaquin Delta (33-7).

Siskiyous has won six consecutive GVC championships and played in the state’s Final Four the previous five years. The Eagles’ record over the past six years is 235-29, a state-best winning percentage of .890.

First round playoff winners will advance to the Super Regional the following weekend.
