Top seed College of the Siskiyous will host the California Community College Super Regional state-qualifying tournament this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Weed.

After two lopsided mercy-rule wins over Yuba in their playoff opening series this past weekend, the Eagles are 37-2. They’re scheduled to open the Super Regional double elimination tournament Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. against No. 8 seed Feather River (30-12).

Friday’s other first round game will pit Central Valley Conference champion Fresno City (31-11), the No. 5 seed, against No. 4 Delta (35-7), runnerup to Sierra in the Big 8 Conference.

Games in the double elimination tournament are scheduled for Saturday at noon, 2 and 4 p.m., then Sunday at noon and, if necessary, 2 p.m.

Siskiyous defeated Feather River four times this season during their undefeated Golden Valley Conference campaign.

Eagles head coach Doug Eastman is attempting to qualify his team to the state’s Final 4 for the sixth year in a row. He said he’s not thrilled about playing a team they’ve already defeated four times, but admits, “every game will be tough now; the good news is those other two teams (Fresno and Delta) are very good, and one of them is going to lose before we see them.”

After losing just two games all season, the Eagles will have to lose twice in one weekend to halt their path to the Final 4.

Eastman said any local softball coaches who would like to bring their teams to the games this weekend will get a great discount on the price of admission.
