Mount Shasta skiers, Weed 'boarders at top in North I
Mount Shasta racers took the top three spots in both girls and boys skiing, while Weed Cougars finished one-two in both snowboard races during North I Division high school competition Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park.
Noah Gonzalez and Brian Quigley of Weed placed first and second in a field of 15 racers in the boys snowboard race, while four of the next five finishers were Mount Shasta Bears: Obie Hamrick (3rd), Chris Cazneaux (4th), Dominic Laiacona (6th), and Chet Bolstridge (7th).
Weed Cougars Giordan Stenmark and Elizabeth Stensaas finished 1-2 in the girls snowboard race. Six of the seven girls in the field finished. Mount Shasta's Margot Mattson placed 4th.
The top three finishers in the boys ski race were Mount Shasta's Clayton Poore, Jarrod Althaus-Cressman, and Weston Stroud. In a field of 16, Tommy Hake and Chad Mapes, both of Mount Shasta, placed 6-7, while Weed's Max Michelon, Clayton Mills, and Andrew Matheson were 9-10-11.
Mount Shasta's only three racers in a field of 11 girls ski racers finished on top, in order, Mariah Althaus-Cressman, Christine Holst, and Shannon Keane.
In the team standings for the day, Mount Shasta and Weed tied for first in boys snowboard, Weed placed first in girls snowboard, Mount Shasta placed first in boys skiing, and Yreka placed first in girls skiing.
