Shasta High, Mount Shasta seniors share Shasta Family YMCA award (Jan. 23-28)
Two senior athletes scored goals and made timely shots last week to earn them recognition as the Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week.
The performances reviewed cover the period between Jan. 23 and Jan. 28.
Team contributions: Dannenberg unleashed a shot in the 50th minute to beat Chico at home 1-0 last Tuesday. The goal gave Shasta its first win over Chico since 2020. Chico had outscored Shasta 20-3 in its previous three matches before last Tuesday's win. Dannenberg followed her strong performance by notching three assists and scored a goal as Shasta overwhelmed Red Bluff 4-1 last Friday. Dannenberg is a transfer from Ventura High School.
Shasta (11-4, 5-2 EAL) travels to Foothill on Wednesday and Pleasant Valley on Friday. Both matches kickoff at 7 p.m.

Team contributions: Yager was a key scorer and defender for surging Mt. Shasta which has won eight straight games to begin 2023. Yager scored 16 points and frisked Fall River for eight steals in a 70-44 victory last Thursday. Yager added 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and shot 60% from the field to beat Modoc 75-34 last Tuesday.
Mount Shasta (11-10, 6-0 Shasta Cascade League) was expected to travel to Etna (9-10, 2-4 Shasta Cascade) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The Bears travel to play Trinity (18-5, 3-2 Shasta Cascade League) on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
