The Mount Shasta High School soccer team is seeded No. 1 in the Northern Section Fall Soccer playoffs after finishing the regular season with nine consecutive shutouts and a 9-0-1 record.

Tied for first with Tulelake in the Shasta Cascade League, the Bears are scheduled to host a first round playoff game Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. at Shastice Park against No. 8 seed Portola, which has a 5-7 record.

With a win Tuesday, the Bears would advance to the semifinals on Thursday to host either No. 4 Fall River (7-3) or No. 5 Paradise Adventist Academy (7-7-2).

Mount Shasta opened its season with a 1-1 tie at Tulelake, then didn’t allow another goal during the regular season.

They defeated Fall River Tuesday of last week in Mount Shasta, 11-0, and finished the regular season with a 1-0 win at Trinity on Thursday, Oct. 18.

During the nine-game win streak, the Bears outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 58-0. That included two 1-0 wins over No. 6 seed Trinity (8-4), which is scheduled to open the playoffs at Feather River League champion Quincy (11-0-1), the No. 3 seed.

No. 2 seed Tulelake takes a 13-0-1 record into its playoff opener against No. 7 CORE Butte, which finished second in the Feather River League at 8-2 and is 9-4 overall.

Semifinal round winners will play for the section championship on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the home of the higher seed. The championship game is scheduled to start at noon.
