The top-seeded Mount Shasta High School soccer team continued its unbeaten ways with an 8-0 win over 8-seed Portola in a first round Northern Section Fall Soccer playoff game Tuesday in Mount Shasta.

Like the Bears, the other top seeds also won in the first round games, so Mount Shasta will host No. 4 Fall River in the semifinals Thursday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m. on the upper field as Shastice Park.

The Bears take a 10-0-1 record into Thursday’s game, including an 11-0 win over Fall River Oct. 16 in Mount Shasta. Fall River improved to 8-3 for the season with a 4-3 playoff win over Paradise Adventist Academy.

No. 2 Tulelake, a 4-0 winner over CORE Butte, will host No. 3 Quincy in the other semifinal. Like the Bears, Tulelake (14-0-1) and Quincy (12-0-1) are both undefeated. With a 7-0 first round win over Trinity, Quincy is the only team left that isn’t from the Shasta Cascade League.

Semifinal winners will advance to Saturday’s section championship game, scheduled for noon at the home of the higher seed.

Alexis Ramirez scored twice for the Bears in the win over Portola, and goalie Vitaliy Tveritin notched his 10th consecutive shutout. He’s only given up 1 goal all year. He surrendered that goal to Tulelake in a 1-1 tie.

Chanel Berg punched in the Bears’ first postseason goal of the season at 14:08, Ramirez scored the next two and it was off to the races.

Also scoring for the Bears were Gavin Paisley, Ross Winters, Chris Bachmann, Landon Turner and Tveritin.

Paisley had 2 assists and Turner had 1.
