Twenty-seven schools gathered at Central Valley High School in Shasta Lake on Saturday for the John Frank Invitational Track Meet as athletes get ready for league and section meets.

Malachy Bryant of Mount Shasta was the only boy to win a varsity event. He raised his pole vault personal record to 13-0 and also finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18-10.25.

Teammate Clara Papleux won the pole vault at 6-06 and Zoe Becker finished second in the 200m in 28.44. Adriana Lujan won both the frosh/soph pole vault, clearing 6-0, and the long jump at 14-01.25.

Alexis Ramirez finished sixth in the 1500m, 4:22.88, and second in the 3000m in 9:28.08. His times are off his season bests and he may not have fully recovered from the illness that kept him out of the Fair Weather Invite.

Freshman Drew Hering continues to improve, getting PR’s in both the 800m, fifth in 2:08.38, and the 1500m, seventh in 4:23.46.

The Bears are developing a dynasty in the pole vault. In addition to Bryant’s win, Orion Alley was fifth in the varsity vault at 8-00, and Devin Newby got second, 8-0, in the frosh/soph field.

Weed’s best effort was Maya Ristuccia’s third place in the f/s pole vault where she cleared 6-0. Jill Turner got fourth in the f/s 100m hurdles in 19.04.
