Cheffey had family in mind during fifth straight Speedway win
On the night he won his fifth consecutive IMCA Sport Modified Main Event race at the Siskiyou Motor Speedway, Colton Cheffey of Weed used a CO2 bottle in his car to shoot blue powder out of a plastic tube to reveal that his sister Jeni’s first child will be a boy.
With his victory over second place finisher Randy Wright on Sept. 2 on the quarter-mile clay oval in Yreka, Cheffey only needs to take a green flag in the point season finale on Sept. 23 to win the championship.
Colton said he has had a lot of help developing his racing skills from his dad, former racer Steve Cheffey, and from Richard and Marge Miller, who have been “huge supporters” of both he and his dad’s racing careers.
He also attributes his success to praying before races.
Early this season, Colton said he had some bad luck in his races. Then he took a week off, and he’s won every race since he returned.
